SAIIDIA'S STORY

“The United Way is one of the best organizations for the community. I live in this community. This is my home and it’s the community that my children have known their entire lives.”

To say that Saiidia’s life is hectic would be an understatement. The single mom commutes over an hour each day to her full-time job while juggling the responsibilities of raising two children and taking online classes to earn her degree. Like so many parents who are working hard to make ends meet, Saiidia has needed a little help in order to provide a better life for her family. On more than one occasion, United Way of Martin County was there to help her regain her footing.

Even though she has medical coverage through her job, it was too expensive for her to pay for dental insurance. Saiidia was referred to Little Lights Dentistry at the Light of the World Charities, a local United Way funded program, which provides free dental care for uninsured children. Through the Light of the World Charities, Saiidia’s children were able to get the care they needed with no cost to her.

This wasn’t Saiidia’s only experience with United Way of Martin County. One year right before Christmas, Saiidia’s car broke down and she depleted her savings to repair it. When Saiidia didn’t think she would be able to provide Christmas for her children, she was referred to the United Way Holiday Project, which helps over 1,000 struggling families during the holidays by making sure every child has toys underneath the tree. “The United Way has helped my children and me in my life so much. I can’t even imagine living in a community without their support.”
