Students United is a philanthropic initiative for high school students eager to learn about and serve their community. Representing the next generation of leaders, the program includes attending varying United Way activities and nonprofit site visits while gaining an understanding of the profound work being accomplished in our community. Members will also participate in United Way’s Citizen Review Process by reviewing grant applications and making fund recommendations.

Who is eligible:
9th – 12th grade Martin County students interested in developing leadership and community impact skills.
What is gained:
20-30 volunteer hours and an awareness of our community’s needs through selfless volunteerism.
When do members meet:
September 2024 – May 2025 for after-school activities on Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (see meeting schedule for more info).
Where do members meet:
At United Way of Martin County (10 SE Central Parkway, Suite 101, Stuart), Cleveland Clinic North, Stuart Walmart, and 3 partner agencies.
Why Students United:
Students United offers a fun, interactive and diverse range of activities, pre-planned by United Way of Martin County, for students to increase community involvement and gain volunteer hours. As a participant, your primary responsibilities include your enthusiastic presence and desire to make a meaningful contribution to the betterment of our community!
Objectives:
- Deepen students' understanding of community needs in education, health, and financial security.
- Educate students on how nonprofits seek and obtain financial support from the United Way.
- Introduce students to programs that address challenges, then evaluate the impact being made.
- Foster a ‘Spirit of Service’ through volunteer opportunities at local organizations.
- Nurture leadership proficiencies within a secure and supportive environment.
Guidelines:
Members are expected to attend all scheduled activities and are responsible for obtaining transportation to and from activities. Students are only permitted 2 valid absences and must inform a team member of their absence prior to the meeting date. Students with perfect attendance will receive special rewards.
Meeting Schedule:
Meetings are held on Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Students must attend activities to receive credit.

History:
Once a student has completed their first year of the program, they are invited back as an Advisory Council Member (ACM) for the remainder of their high school education. Currently, there are more than 20 past members. Some of which will be there to welcome and guide the 2024-2025 Students United group. The current members will also have an opportunity to continue their community efforts by volunteering, leading activities and serving as mentors.
